10 Characteristics of a Godly Woman Part 2

We are back and we’re adding 5 more characteristics of a godly woman to our list of 10.

Let’s go!

She is a mentor to those around her
Titus 2:3-5 says…
Similarly, teach the older women to live in a way that honors God. They must not slander others or be heavy drinkers. Instead, they should teach others what is good.  These older women must train the younger women to love their husbands and their children, to live wisely and be pure, to work in their homes, to do good, and to be submissive to their husbands. Then they will not bring shame on the word of God.

Godly women are mentors to those around them. They are mentors to their children, younger women in the faith, their family members and friends. Their walk with God is on display for all around her to see and she is a light. Of course, this doesn’t mean that there will be no mistakes made. BUT, Godly women are committed to acknowledging their mistakes, repenting and moving forward. Godly women are involved in their local and church communities. They invest in the lives of women that are younger in the faith and they invite them into their homes, lives and families to serve them. Godly women do not seek to only do things that benefit them, they live a life of serving others.

She submits to her husband in a Christian marriage
And further, submit to one another out of reverence for Christ. For wives, this means submit to your husbands as to the Lord.  Ephesians 5:21-22

Ok, before you log off just hear (read) me out!! For some reason, the word submission and the idea of submission to a husband from a wife has been twisted and turned into such an evil concept that is far from the original biblical design.

Let me tell you what Godly submission is not:
Abusive
Demeaning
Forceful
Prideful

Godly submission is:
Humble
Respectful
Honoring
Loving

Godly women submit to their husband AS HE submits to God. Godly women don’t worry about what the world thinks about submission, she follows her god-given responsibilities. Godly women do not use submission as a weapon or bargaining tool in their marriage. She serves, honors and respects her husband. She strives to keep rude and snarky comments to a minimum if any at all. She views submission as a way to honor God with her marriage. Because she trusts God and trusts that He has formed her marriage, she submits to her husband as he submits to God.

She trusts God, even through the hard times
Putting our hope and faith in God is paramount. Godly women trust and rely on God no matter what goes on in life. She strives to have unshakeable faith and even when her faith is tested, she stops, prays and gets in alignment. She also utilizes wise counsel to help her when she’s in need.

She gives generously
She extends a helping hand to the poor and opens her arms to the needy. - Proverbs 31:20

Godly women are generous. They give what they can to who they can. They give their time, money, resources, thoughts and opinions to those in need (with boundaries of course). They are not selfish, they are selfless. They do not believe the world solely revolves around them. They extend themselves to family, friends and those in their community. They’re committed to modeling the servant nature of Jesus.

She is humble
God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble. - James 4:6

Godly women are humble! They are not proud. Godly women know that they are no better than anyone else and they are saved by God’s grace alone not by any works that they could ever do.

So we’ve talked about 10 characteristics of a Godly woman. I hope this has helped you better understand yourself and what it means to be a Godly woman. I hope this also has taken a bit of pressure off of you to feel like you have to have a certain “look” to be Godly.
